As Scouts progress from the Cub Section to the Scout Section and as they progress through the Adventure Skills Badges they assume a greater degree of responsibility for organising and planning their own activities. As part of this years activities, the Scouts requested a visit to the Aran Islands.
Several of the Scouts researched the costs including ferry costs, camp fees etc. Based on this research the Scouts camped on Inis Oir from Friday 19th June to Sunday 21st.
Some Island exploration was undertaken,
new friends made,
and two composite patrols.

The Cub Section attended the Galway County Cub Camp in Portlick from Friday 12th June to Sunday 14th June. There were over 250 Cubs from all over the County in attendance. It was a fun filled weekend with Cubs undertaking numerous activities such as Kayaking, Backwoods, Pioneering, Crate Stacking etc.
Photographs to follow.
Well done to our 4 new Scouts who have transitioned from Cubs to Scouts. Breaking wih our tradition of investing Scouts on a Hike or Camp, the Scouts were invested in our meeting all. Well done to all.
The Cub Section undertook an 11Km climb hike on Saturday 30th May around Portumna Forest Park. A great day was had by all although there were some tired legs at the end.
One Scouter continues to impress with his ability to wear shorts for each hike irrespective of the weather. See more photographs.
Love Those Shorts
Congratulations to all of the Cubs and Scouters who were invested as members of the 19th Galway Athenry Scouts on Tuesday 26th May. Wishing you all many happy and fun filled Scouting years.
A very big thank you to the Athenry Fire Service for allowing the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to visit the Athenry Fire Station on Tuesday 26th May. All of the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts had a great time. A special thanks to the Athenry Musical School for providing treats to the Beavers/Cub/Scouts and the Firemen.
The high light for many was the opportunity to use the fire hose and spray some water although a few of the Scouters looked a bit worried. See all of the photographs.
