Beavers, Cubs and Scouts Orienteering, Esker, Athenry

A big thank you to the Western Eagles Galway for allowing the 19th Galway Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to attend todays Orienteering Event in Esker, Athenry. Everyone had a great time on what turned out to be a nice autumnal morning. The Beavers managed to finish the course before the Scouts although the Beaver leaders needed a sit down afterwards!

First Cub Camp of the Scouting Year

Well done to all to the Cubs who attended the first Cub camp of the Scouting Year. The Cubs  camped in tents in the lovely grounds of Esker Monastery, Esker, Athenry, Co Galway. An action packed weekend was provided with Camp setup on Friday, Adventure Skill activity bases on Saturday morning which were run by some Scouts followed by some wide games on Saturday afternoon.

After dinner on Saturday there was a traditional Scout camp fire. The Beavers joined us for a few hours. The camp fire consisted of numerous Scout Camp fire songs and songs/jokes/stories told by individual Beavers and Cubs.

Sunday morning was Camp pack up, site clean etc with the Cubs departing at 12:30 pm for a long rest. A big thank you to all who helped make the weekend enjoyable.

First Scout Hike of the new Scout year Abbey Hill Sunday 4th October

The Scout section under took their first Hike of the new Scout year on Sunday 4th October 2015. The hike started at NewQuay Church, Bell Harbour, Co Claire and involved the Scouts hiking to the top of Abbey Hill. Once at the top there was a lunch break and then the Scouts descended along the ridge, finishing with a short road section back to the Church.

During the hike the Scouts navigated in Patrols utilising a compass and map.

The first patrol was back two minutes early based on the estimated hike time with the other two patrols back within 15 minutes of the estimated hike time.
