About

The 19th Galway Athenry scout troop is an Irish scout troop based in Athenry, Co. Galway, Ireland. We currently have a youth membership 51 and 12 Leaders. We could accommodate youth members if we have additional Leaders.

We are a member of Scouting Ireland. Scouting Ireland is a multi-denominational, co-educational, youth based association operating across the entire island of Ireland. We practice the scout method through our weekend activities and weekly meetings to young people between the ages of 6 and 26.

Between our different age groups we teach Scouting skills such as pioneering, hiking, backwoods survival training, canoeing, first aid and other really useful skills.

After an absence of  several years the troop reformed in April 2012 with an initial cub investiture of 13 cubs (9-11 year olds). A second investiture of 17 cubs took place in October 2012 bringing the cub numbers to 30.

A Scout Section (12-15 year olds) was formed in September 2013 with n initial intake of 9 scouts. This was increased to 13 in Janaury 2014.

A Beaver section was formed in April 2014 with an initial intake of 8 beavers.

All of our Leaders are Garda Vetted.
